Catnip isn’t Just for Cats

As it turns out, Catnip isn’t just for cats – you can use it too, or rather drink it in Catnip tea. Catnip tea, when used by humans, is a natural sedative that can help you relax.  Because of this,  it has become one of the go-to herbs in many remedies.

The relaxing effects of catnip tea apparently come with pain killing capabilities. In previous generations, access to catnip tea allowed people to just pick the leaves and chew on them should there be a need to do so. In fact, infants and children were also allowed to chew on this plant for when their teething got too painful. This is why catnip tea for babies is also available. Should the baby need a natural remedy for pain, catnip tea with a slice of lemon and some honey should help calm them down.

Catnip can also work as an antacid, so it can relieve flatulence, diarrhea as well as stomach cramps. It also helps cleanse the digestive system, so drinking this daily along with a lot of water and exercise could be a way to detoxify the body.

In addition, the tea can be  prepared for migraines as well as cramps that come with menstruation. Since these pains are rather severe though, a stronger infusion would be recommended. A drink of warm tea would soothe the muscles, make the body relax and even promote sleep. This means that if Catnip Tea is taken at night, you can get a good night’s sleep and wake up without the pain.

Lastly, this tea also has antiseptic properties as well as anti inflammatory properties that help a body both inside and out. From sore throats to insect bites, this tea can help out.

The tea is safe to give all ages and would be a great tea to help out with your aches and pains or for simple relaxation. One thing about Catnip tea though is that it is not the tastiest of teas. It might be better for the tea to be mixed with other loose leaf teas like green, black, white, or even other herbal teas to get all kinds of benefits. However you take it, it might be a good idea to take a hint from fluffy and indulge in some catnip.

All these years I’ve been spoiling my cats with it and I could have been ingesting it for my benefit as well? I must give some catnip tea a try!
